Early Years

Our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Phase is led by Mrs Ashton and supported by 3 LSAs. EYFS comprises our Nursery Class and our Reception Class.

Nursery

Children can join our Nursery Class from the age of 3.  Parents are able to make use of the 15 hours of funded provision that all children are entitled to in the term after their third birthday.  Children may attend on a part-time or full-time basis. Our sessions run Monday to Friday, term-time only, as follows:

Morning session: 8.40am-11.40am

(Lunch 11.40am-12.40pm)

Afternoon session: 11.40pm-2.40pm

Our nursery consists of one large room which is shared with our reception class, as well as 2 outdoor play areas, a sensory room, private children's toilets and a smaller reading room. Nursery children eat in the classroom at lunchtime whilst reception children eat in the school hall.  In addition, nursery children are invited to take part in swimming lessons in our school pool through the warmer months, should the lessons occur on a day that they attend.

Reception

Children can apply to join our Reception Class in the September after their 4th birthday.  As a Voluntary-Aided Catholic School, the Governors of Holy Family School are responsible for ranking applicants for Reception Class places against our published oversubscription criteria (Admissions Policy). More information regarding the next academic year's intake can be viewed on our admissions page.

In EYFS, (and through to Year 1 and Year 2) the teaching of phonics is an integral part of each child’s daily learning—this may be an area of the curriculum that you are unfamiliar with, but teachers run phonics workshops for parents throughout the school year and provide a wealth of phonics resources for use at home.

More information can be viewed in our school's prospectus.
